5 Food That Create Excess Mucus
BANANA– When we have cough and cold, we refuse to eat banana, that is because when we eat banana, a chemical called histamine is produced in the body which triggers the production of mucus. Well, you can eat bananas but if you have a lot of mucus or sinus or cold, in that case either do not eat bananas for a few days or eat them by applying black pepper on the bananas. This will give you a lot of relief from the problem of mucus.
CURD– It is a fact that dairy products produce more mucus. Especially curd, in Ayurveda, curd has been called cough curry and abhishyandi. Due to the presence of cough curry, it produces more mucus, hence you already produce a lot of mucus. If there is difficulty in breathing, then in that case you need to stop curd. It would be better if you cut down heavy milk products like curd, butter and mayonnaise from your diet for a few days. Drink milk only after adding turmeric and black pepper. If you want to eat, then eat it only till noon. Avoid it completely at night and in the afternoon also it would be better if you take it in the form of raita or you can also take plain curd in which black pepper and salt are added in small quantity.
BREAD- A study was conducted in which subjects were given two slices of bread daily. By the time the study was completed, it was found that the group which ate two slices of bread daily started having symptoms of nasal polyps. Research also revealed that regular bread consumption can increase the chances of developing asthma. Preservatives, food additives and thickeners are added to the bread we buy from the market, which create inflammation in the internal walls of the body. If you have excessive mucus production then you should avoid bread whether it is brown or white. Therefore, you can also replace bread with Indian flat bread i.e. roti. Be it roti sandwich or roti roll.
Rice– Firstly, rice is cold in nature and contains a lot of starch, hence if you keep it cooked, it starts joining together, a similar effect happens inside the body. Due to which it increases mucus and blocks the respiratory channel, but you do not need to stop rice completely. Reduce the quantity. The second one is very important. This means that whenever you make rice, add hot spices like bay leaf, black pepper, clove and cinnamon to it so that its nature becomes a little hot and the phlegm accumulated inside comes out. If you have a lot of mucus then gram flour is a very beneficial grain for you. You can eat gram flour cheela for breakfast. You can mix gram flour or wheat flour in the channa flour. You can also make gram flour syrup and drink it and eat roasted gram for snacking.
CHOCOLATE– If you have the problem of acidity, then in this case chocolate and coffee, both these things create excess mucus in the body. What happens is that due to regular consumption of chocolate or coffee, the sphincters of our food pipe become weak. Sphincters act as gatekeepers that prevent the acid produced in the stomach from coming up. But when they become weak due to drinking too much chocolate and coffee, the acid comes upwards. Now when the acid comes up, it is the walls of the food pipe. It will irritate them and the body produces more mucus as its defense mechanism. If the mucus is produced in excess, there will be soreness, burning sensation and sometimes the problem of persistent cough also occurs. Therefore, you also need to avoid things that increase acid reflux like carbonated drinks and fried foods.
