I used to struggle to wake up early a lot too. The alarm would keep ringing, but I just couldn’t wake up. But the I changed 3 things in my life after which I can wake up every morning with ease. So you’ll learn 3 things which will help you wake up early, whether it’s at 4 Am or 5 Am, You’ll able to wake up without fail. Early morning, 1.5 hours before sunrise, is the time of Brahma Muhurta. During this time, your focus, concentration, mental clarity, and peace of mind is at its peak.

Not just this, during this time, your Satvic guna is at its peak. By this time it’s afternoon, your Rajasik guna increases and by sunset, your Tamasik guna increases. So don’t waste this Brahma Muhurta time by sleeping. If you want to learn a new skill, absorb new knowledge, want to strengthen your body or do your spiritual practice then there’s no better time to do it than during the early morning hours.

How To Wake Up Early In The Morning

Set the alarm not for 5 Am, but 9 Pm. Get in your bed by 9 Pm. You don’t have to worry about waking up early, you just get ready to sleep early. If you want to get in the habit of waking up early then get in bed by 9 Pm, of course. How will you even feel sleepy? We’re stuck to these gadgets late in the night. All these high stimulation activities aggravate our brain and senses overstimulates them. High stimulation activities include working on the laptop, scrolling on Instagram and social media, watching TV shows, listening to loud music, working out late in the morning. These screens emit a blue light which prevent your brain from secreting a chemical called melatonin.

Melatonin is a sleep promoting hormone. Naturally, as it gets dark, your brain starts producing melatonin to help you sleep with this, your brain gets a signal- “It’s night time! Go to sleep” But if you keep gazing at these screens late at night then your brain won’t produce melatonin. Your brain won’t get the signal to sleep. You won’t sleep on time and hours will pass by after snoozing through the alarm. So, set an alarm in your phone right now. Open the alarm app, set an alarm for 9 Pm, and set it to repeat everyday. So remember, the preparation to wake up early should begin the previous night.

Create A Strong Morning Routine

If you don’t have a clear purpose to wake up early then no matter what you do, you won’t wake up early. Make that routine so inspiring that is become your reason to wake up early. A holistic morning has three M’s. The first M- Meditate, spend the first half an hour of your morning meditating or doing any other spiritual activity. During meditation, you can reflect on your life. Everyone has a different way to meditate. Someone meditates through journaling, some by chanting, some meditate through spiritual study, some by doing Japa. During this time, whatever your spiritual practice is, whatever comes naturally to you, do that. During Brahma Muhurta, your mind is totally silent and you can easily meditate.

The 2nd M of your morning routine is movement. Whether it’s yoga asana practice, walking, running, jogging, dancing, swimming, or any other sport. And the 3rd M is mastery, the time when you sharpen your memory. During this time, you can read books. Whether these books are on health, self-development, or spiritual, you can even learn a new skill. Morning 5 AM is a 0 distraction hour. There are no notifications running on your phone, 5-6 people in your home aren’t drawing your attention and that’s why writers, poets, thinkers, any successful people, they never waste these golden hours by sleeping through them. They know that early morning the mind is a powerhouse of creativity. So meditation, movement, mastery- these 3 M’s helped a lot in my personal life.

Where you sleep, don’t do meditation, movement and mastery there because your bed carries the energy of sleeping. If you sit in bed to do your meditation and mastery, there are high chances you’ll end up sleeping half an hour later. Give every activity a designated place. So in summary, you’ll only wake up early if you have a solid purpose and an inspiring morning routine can be the reason for you to wake up early.

Make Your dinner Light And Healthy

When your body has something so heavy to digest, it can’t give you deep sleep. Remember digestion on so deep sleep gone which means light sleep on. So if your body is getting light sleep for 5-6 hours every night then it will take longer to get its sleep and you won’t be able to wake up early in the morning. Make your dinner light so that you get deep sleep. For dinner, you can take soup and steamed vegetables, or a big bowl or fresh salad. If you don’t fulfilled with this, then take any grain with veggies but less grains and double the veggies. If you’re taking 1 bowl of grain, then 2 bowls of veggies. If 2 bowls of grain, then 4 bowls of veggies. Basically, reduce the quantity of grains for dinner.

The more grains we eat, the more we need to sleep. And yes, keep the quantity of your dinner low. Don’t stuff your stomach. In fact, before getting up from the table, leave some space in your stomach. If you overeat, you’ll never be able to wake up early. And yes, keep at least a 2 hour gap between your dinner and sleep. So if you want to sleep at 9 Pm then try to eat dinner by 7 Pm.
